What is Animal Reiki?

When I share my Family Dog Connection Limited origin story, of creation in a moment of Animal Reiki connection with our first Romanian street rescue dog Zara, one of the most common questions I get asked is "What is Animal Reiki?"

Which is often closely followed by "How is it different to regular Reiki?"

I'm going to share my responses to both of these key Animal Reiki queries here for you now.

1) Animal Reiki is for me the offered channeling of Reiki (infinite, loving, light, universal energy) to animals of any species (for insurance purposes other than people). And yes it is kind of funny as we are of course animals too although many people often forget this.

The main benefits of Animal Reiki being increased natural relaxation which offers the individual animal and opportunity to move into parasympathetic nervous activation which can support their body to calm, rest and restore it's own homeostasis to the very best of its ability.

From a personal perspective it's greatly supported our rescue dogs, cats, rabbit to calm, let go of historic stacked stress, fear and anxiety of people and other animals, and strengthen their emotional resilience and calm, connected confidence.

2) The biggest difference between Animal Reiki (also known as Pet Reiki, Dog Reiki, Cat Reiki, Horse Reiki, Rabbit Reiki, Bird Reiki) and Reiki is that Animal Reiki is only offered to the individual animal and they then get to choose if they wish to receive it immediately, at a later time or not at all. In comparison when a person requests a Reiki session they are actively choosing to organise one with a Reiki Practitioner.

For animals however unless they are communicating directly with a person who can then request the Animal Reiki on their behalf are often not actively choosing the appointment. It's often their companion or carer person that arranges the Animal Reiki session for them.

Therefore the Animal Reiki Practitioner gets to give the animal a choice at the start of the session. It's essential that they can safely choose to move away from the Practitioner if they wish to do so when they are offered the opportunity to receive Animal Reiki.

One of the wonderful things about Animal Reiki/ Reiki is that they can travel any distance as I believe that they are drawing on infinite universal loving light energy which weaves us all together universally and beyond.

Animal Reiki can therefore be offered and shared distantly, from across the seas, from another room or through a safe enclosure as required and will always support the individual to their highest positive intention and wellbeing.

The other major difference between Reiki and Animal Reiki is that whilst we share a common language as people despite differing dialects and languages many people don't understand how animals are communicating with them verbally.

In this way awareness of individual, species and breed animal behaviour, communication and body language are incredibly important to Animal Reiki Practitioners as they give them the opportunity to start to understand the animal that they are offering the energy to.

Every sentient being is unique whatever species they are so ensuring that you gather as much background data of the animal prior to commencing the Animal Reiki session is essential.

And given the heavy effect or environmental, emotional, experiential and over mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing on individuals any noticed changes from the day of the session are also highly useful to be aware of.

Mainly as they can alter the individual animals behaviour, patience and stress levels which can result in different body language and stress level thresholds.
